Previous : Day 13 – Steamboat to Radium (56 miles)

Another frosty morning.  Putting on my wet cycling shoes was not the most pleasurable experience.

At least I could make some proper coffee and cook some porridge with the jetboil stove.

It soon warmed up once the sun reached into the valley.  It took me too long to get going today.  Filtering 3 litres of water took over 30 mins.

I had an idea today was going to be tough, but the reality was brutal!

First off was a 3 mile climb, followed shortly by a 6 mile one and many more miles uphill!

Whilst climbing climb 2 I was fortunate to see the Union Pacific train emerging from the tunnel in the valley below alongside the Colorado River.  I counted 98 carriages!

I didn’t take many pictures today as it was such a struggle.  The heat was staggering and I felt cooked.   At 2pm on a steep climb with no wind, and in full sun the garmin was reading 44.8 celsius.

I did, however, manage to get my excess stuff mailed back home at the post office in Kremmling.

I also spotted one of these in Silverthorn.

Sorry Mai darling, but dad had no room in his bags and it was 630pm and I still had 7 miles to go to Fresco.  Before I leave the US I’ll try to find another one.

6hrs 50mins riding time and 6000ft of climbing felt so long today and in all honesty I was glad it was done.

Hauling the fully loaded bike is hard going.

A few more random pictures from today.

Day 15 – Frisco to Hartsel (64 miles)
