Day 1 of the ride was 53 miles and took in 2 passes of the Great Divide. It didn’t take long before I realised that it was going to be a day of riding with long climbs.
Basically, the day went like this. Long climb, down hill, lunch, 6 mile climb with thoughts of what the hell am I doing here as my legs screamed, down hill to camp.
The scenery was breathtaking!
We then had to tackle Fleecer Ridge. At 43% it was too steep to ride down. That’s a shocking admission and the photos below will try to convey the gradient, but they fail.
So after 5 hours of riding I arrived at the campsite. The photo below says it all. That’s the toilet block. Haha!
Had a few beers with Tom from Alaska who is riding the route with his two buddies. Really nice guy.
Now it’s 930pm and I’m shattered. Until tomorrow..
