Previous : Day 19 – Greymouth -> Ross

Friday March 10th – Ross -> Fox Glacier (83 miles)

Now, I am going to stick my head up above the parapet here and say that for me the next few days were not the most enjoyable and on reflection I wouldn’t have been too bothered if they were removed from the route and an alternative found.

So, why do I feel this way?

Highway, Motorhome, Highway, Motorhome ….

That was pretty much the scene all the way to Queenstown.  Mountain bikes are for trails, not for riding on highways.  I also got fed up with drivers not giving you enough room.  The campsites became much more RV focused and the tent sites became somewhat an after thought.  Don’t get me wrong, the scenery was stunning.  As a result my words might be brief and I will let the pictures do the talking.

Entering Franz Joseph Glacier Township

A cyclist from Paris who had cycled to NZ.  I was amazed to see he was lugging around to spare tires on his rack!  I am sure he could have made life much easier for himself whilst in NZ by just dumping half his spare kit that he could purchase at a bike shop if he needed too.

From Franz Joseph Township it was a climb over 3 saddles (hills) before the destination of the day Fox Township was reached.  A few more pictures en route to Fox Township.

The endpoint for the day was at an overpriced and touristy RV park in Fox Township.
